Warm azure ocean, swaying coconut palms on white sandy beaches are to be found in the Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve. The park lies between the Mtwapa and Tudor Creeks and its blue waters are ideal for wind surfing, water skiing, snorkelling and diving. They also provide a home to a colourful variety of marine species including crabs, starfish, stone fish, cucumbers sea urchins, corals, turtles, sea grasses and interesting migratory birds including crab plovers.
Synonymous with sun, sand, beautiful warm weather and a vibrant town life, Mombasa is one of the great coastal destinations that wanderlust leads most visitors that love the beach to. While in Mombasa, Mombasa Marine National Park is a great find. Her alluring beauty illuminated by the coral reefs coupled with crystal clear ocean waters and marine life will capture you like a magnet.
Attractions & Activities
The coral life is rich with different varieties/ species; Acropora, Turbinaria and Porites. Other marine life include; crabs, sea urchins, jelly fish, snappers, groupers, surgeonfish and sweetlips. Sea grasses and marine algae life is also present. The birdlife consists of a variety of seabirds in large nesting colonies and internationally significant numbers of crab plovers and roseate tern. Activities that visitors can enjoy are jet skiing, boat rides, sailing and windsurfing. For the water magic lovers, snorkelers and divers, the marine park is a great destination for such leisure activities.
Mombasa Marine Park is surrounded by beautiful and breathtaking beaches. These include; Nyali, Shanzu, Bamburi and Kenyatta Public beaches.
Other unique and historic sites around the marine park include; Jumba la Mtwana,
Fort Jesus, Haller Park and Shree Jain Temple among others.

Camera, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellant, first aid kit, sunglasses, drinking water and appropriate beach wear.
Security/Guided tour per guide
KES 1,720 – up to 4 hours
KES 3,015 – Over 4 hours
Beach events including weddings, video shoots are allowed but with prior consultation with the Park warden.
Boat Charges per day:
KES 300/= per boat entry for diving schools and daily entry for community boats.
N/B: Boats are managed by the community and private diving schools. Boat charges are charged separately from the park entry fee.
By Road: From Nairobi, Mombasa is about 487 KM. The park can be reached by road from Mombasa CBD, and then connected by boat from the various points along the beach which include: Serena Gate on beach of Serena Hotel, Severin Gate on beach of Severin Hotel, Travellers Gate on the beach of Travellers Hotel, Nyali Gate at Mombasa Marine Park Headquarters and Voyager Gate at Voyager water sport Area.
By Air: From JKIA or Wilson Airport to Moi International Airport
By Rail: Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Syokimau (Nairobi Terminus) to Miritini (Mombasa Terminus) train stations.
